(NewsDakota.com) The Carrington boys basketball team have won two in a row since a hard fought loss to No. 2 North Star from Region Four on February 2nd. The Cards have played five games in a row at home since January 29th, going 3-2 on their home court. They are 16-3 overall, 3-2 in district seven. On Feb. 9th, they beat Velva 64-46 and last night they beat Benson County 54-29.

Leading the way for the Cards was Sr. Austin Johnson with a double-double, 21 points and 10 rebounds. Sr. Taylor Skytland had 13 followed by Sr. Scott Burnham with 12 points and five boards. Soph. Seth Abaurrea added four points and five assists.
Carrington shot 25/51 for 49% from the field, 8/14 for 57% from the free throw line.

Benson County took an early 14-7 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Cards scored 14 points of their own in the second quarter compared to BC’s 7 to tie it at 21 apiece at the end of the first half. Benson County only scored eight points the entire second half as Carrington scored 33 to put the Cards in the win column last night.
Sr. Austin Johnson had 15 points and nine rebounds for the Cards, followed by Scott Burnham with 11 points and seven rebounds. Seth Abaurrea had seven assists, seven steals and eight points.
Benson County was led by Kaleb Westad with 11 off the bench.
Carrington shot 19/45 for 42% from the field, Benson County was 13/50.
Next up for the Cards will be the District Seven Tournament in Devils Lake starting this Thursday at the Devils Lake Sports Center. Carrington will be the number three seed and play the number six seed Midkota Mustangs at 7pm. AM 1600 KDAK will be covering State Wrestling at the Fargodome starting at 10a on Thursday, then breakaway for the boys basketball game around 7p, then go back to wrestling if its still going.
