(NewsDakota.com)- It wasn’t pretty, but the Jamestown girls overcame another slow start to defeat St. Mary’s 65-47. They picked up their 8th straight win and locked up the No. 2-seed in next week’s WDA Tournament.

The boys ran into one of the top teams in the state as they fell to the Saints 91-55. St. Mary’s got 27 points from Ben Weisbeck, the 2nd leading scorer in the WDA.

Jamestown have now lost 12 in a row and will need to beat Dickinson Thursday to avoid going on the road for the WDA play-in game. The game would be Friday night if in Belcourt, but Saturday if in Jamestown.

Twenty-five different players scored in the game; 13 Jays and 12 Saints. David Hanson had 11 to lead Jamestown who had just four second-half field goals.

The girls started slow but were able to erase an early seven point deficit to take a lead into halftime. Kyra Dewald had 12 of her 15 in the second half as the Jays pulled away.

Jamestown will finish second in the WDA to Century. They will finish the regular season Thursday at home against Dickinson in a varsity only doubleheader beginning at 5:45pm.
