CITY (NewsDakota.com) – The Hi-Liner girls basketball team is going back to the EDC Tournament.

Four girls scored in double figures as Valley City beat Grand Forks Central 69-44 in a play-in game Saturday night at the Hi-Liner Activity Center. Valley City improves to 12-8 and moves on the EDC Tournament for the second straight season. They will be the No. 7 seed and play at No. 2 West Fargo High School on Tuesday night.

Clarissa Olson scored 19 to lead the Hi-Liners, including 10 in the first half that helped them to a 29-20 lead at the break. Mariah Olstad added 17 points, Dierra Diegel scored 13, and Megan McDaniel chipped in 12.

Valley City knocked down seven 3-pointers in the win, including three from McDaniel. The two teams combined to attempt 67 free throws, including 47 in the second half.

Grand Forks Central was led by by 22 points from Taylor Hammer and seven from Britni Hart.

The Valley City boys basketball had its season come to a close Saturday during a play-in game at Devils Lake. The Firebirds started hot in the first half and won 82-65. The Hi-Liner boys end the season with a 5-15 record.
