(NewsDakota.com) Throughout the 2012-13 season, the Oakes High School girls  basketball team has been a second half team. In their semi-final matchup in the District 1 girls basketball tournament on Saturday evening, the Tornadoes second half success was present in their opponent; as the Bison cruised to a 65-49 victory. 

The Tornadoes had a strong start, with a 15-13 lead after the first quarter and were within a point as the teams went to the locker room. However, the Bison outscored Oakes 40-25 in the second half to send Milnor to the District 1 Championship round.

Milnor (13-7) had 16 points from Rachel Sakry, while Jackie Ellefson added another 15. The Toradoes (12-8) were lead by Nicole Warren’s 25 points; Lydia Hansen had eight.

In other action on Saturday, North Sargent defeated Sargent Central 69-48, Hankinson took down Wyndmere/Ligerwood 55-46 and F-C-T advanced to the Championship game after sliding past Lisbon 51-43.

Monday will see three games, the first two are Regional Qualifiers between Oakes and North Sargent at 4:30, followed by Hankinson and Lisbon. The District 1 Championship Game will feature F-C-T and Milnor.
