CITY (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City High School track team opened its brief indoor season with the Class A State Indoor Meet on Friday in Fargo.

Head coach Trevor Bakalar said the team set 11 personal records, calling it a great way to start the season.

Three different Hi-Liners earned Top 8 places at the meet featuring Class A teams from across the entire state.

For the Hi-Liner girls, April Berntson took fourth place the 1600-meter run. Berntson crossed the finish line in 5:47.67, finishing fourth out of 37 runners. Tonya Van Dyke earned a seventh place in shot put for the Hi-Liners, finishing with a top throw of 33 feet and 1/2 inch.

For the Hi-Liner boys, Casey Engelhard tied for eighth in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 4 inches.

Up next: Valley City continues its indoor season with a meet April 1 in Wahpeton and then the EDC Indoor Meet on April 5 in Fargo at the Bison Sports Arena.
