CITY – Valley City State University women’s basketball coach Jill DeVries says that guard Tarah Cleveland (Menahga, Minn. / Menahga H.S.) has signed a letter of intent to play basketball and continue her education at VCSU in the fall of 2013.
Cleveland joins Lexi Lennon (West Fargo, N.D. / West Fargo H.S.) and Courtney Greiner (Hancock, Minn. / Hancock H.S.), who signed letters of intent earlier.
Cleveland, a five-time Park Region All-Conference selection averaged 22.4 points, 4 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.9 steals per game as a senior. She scored in double figures 23 of their 24 games in 2012-13, scoring 20 or more points in 16 games. She amassed 2,752 career points and 526 steals at Menahga high school.
‘Tarah has a scorer’s mentality and she has range that we need in our perimeter position. She is an outstanding student-athlete and fits the culture of VCSU women’s basketball.’ Commented DeVries.
Cleveland was a Minnesota Honorable-Mention All-State selection as a junior and senior and is one of 12 girls from Class A to be invited to play in the Minnesota Girls Basketball Association All-Star game on April 26th.
‘Tarah has worked very hard to become a complete basketball player.’ Says DeVries. ‘She is a gym rat. She made 74 threes this season and we believe she’ll be able to improve upon that at the collegiate level.’
Cleveland, a three sport athlete in high school (volleyball and softball) plans to major in math education at VCSU.
