Valley City Electrical Supervisor Stan Hansen said the new system will save the city money. He explains what Automatic Metering Infrastructure known as (AMI) does and what it doesn’t do.

Valley City residents expressed concern over possible Radio Frequency signals known as (RF) or whether the system could be an invasion of their privacy. Hansen said most studies dispute that claim.

Hansen said there will likely be no job losses for Valley City employees with this new system but cross training in other areas is one option.

On April 4, the city held a public meeting to explain the system and field questions of concern from Valley City residents.

The city has not moved forward with any resolution to approve this system. More discussion is likely before the city makes a final announcement on the AMI system.
