– The tax deadline date has been extended for state and federal returns in ND.
According to ND Tax Commissioner Cory Fong, the deadline was extended due to the record breaking snow storm that hit the state on Sunday and Monday.
Fong says that state residents will have a little extra time to file if they show good cause that they were affected by the storm, and if they make a good faith effort to file their return in a “reasonable amount of time”.
Fong says that now with the weather improving, people should try to get their returns filed. Residents are advised to watch for potential late file notices coming as soon as next month.
Fong says some residents may “slip through the cracks”. If you recieve a late file notice with penalty in error, you are encouraged to contact the ND State Tax Department office.
