N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The North Dakota Highway Patrol will be conducting a saturation of Barnes County on May 24th, 25th and 26th to include a sobriety checkpoint during the overnight hours of May 25th, 2013 at a predetermined location within Barnes County.

In 2012, 87 people lost their lives in alcohol related crashes.  So far in 2013, 14 people have lost their lives in alcohol related crashes in the state of North Dakota.  This is 33% of the fatalities so far in 2013.

Sgt. Tom Herzig said, “the purpose of the enforcement effort during an alcohol saturation or sobriety checkpoint is not to arrest DUI drivers, but to cause people to think before they consume alcohol and get behind the wheel.  Herzig added, “we want people to know we are out there, causing them to make the right choice in finding an alternate way such as a designated driver to reach their destinations if they’ve been drinking this Memorial Day weekend.
