CITY (NewsDakota.com) – Valley City racked up 14 hits Thursday as the Hi-Liners advanced to the semifinals of the EDC Softball Tournament with an 8-4 win over Red River.
Red River scored three runs in the first inning and led 4-0, but Valley City took the lead for good with a five-run rally in the bottom of the third inning.
Danica Diegel earned the win pitching, allowing four runs in five innings. Jessica Denholm pitched two scoreless innings in relief.
Offensively, Brooke Breckheimer and Paula Andel both hit home runs and combined to drive in six of the eight runs. Breckheimer had two hits and four RBI’s, while Andel drove in two runs. Danica Diegel and Dierra Diegel added three hits each.
The Hi-Liners move on to play Fargo Davies in the semifinals at 7 p.m. Friday. Davies entered as the No. 7 seed but upset No. 2 Fargo North 6-4 in eight innings. The other semifinal features West Fargo and Devils Lake.
The winners of the semifinal games clinch a spot at next week’s state tournament.
