CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Valley City building inspector David Andersen informed Barnes County officials that a building permit and asbestos inspection would be required before the county can move forward renovating the basement of the courthouse for the Public Service Answering Point System.

Barnes County Commission president Eldred Knutson said the news is another setback for the county in their timeline to move the dispatchers out of their current location within the city owned law enforcement center later this year.

Earlier this year the county decided to take control of the Public Service Answering Point system and to move out of the city owned building which has been the home for 9-1-1 dispatcher since 1992.

The city has offered to renovate the existing location in the law enforcement center and to reduce the annual rent the county pays to keep the equipment and the dispatchers in the same location.

Knutson said the county voted to move the PSAP Center being new equipment will have to be installed in the near future.

Knutson added that the county also wanted to get the PSAP Center out of the city owned building being it’s in the flood plain.
