CITY – The Valley City State University football team has hired a new quarterbacks coach.
Head coach Dennis McCulloch said Monday that the Vikings have hired Jake Breske to coach quarterbacks at VCSU. He will join the Viking football program this summer.
Breske’s hiring will enable Marty Costello, Viking offensive coordinator, to return to his natural coaching position with the offensive line.
Currently, Breske serves as an assistant coach in his hometown of Webster, S.D., where the high school team had its first winning record in eight years.
“Jake is going to make an excellent addition to our staff,” said McCulloch. “He is a great fit, and his skills will complement our staff perfectly.”
Prior to his stint in Webster, Breske served as a graduate assistant at the University of South Dakota (USD), where he coached two different all-conference running backs. His time as a coach at USD was highlighted by victories over the University Minnesota (an FBS program) and the defending FCS champion and #1 ranked Eastern Washington University.
Breske played his college football at USD and helped guide his team to a 26-19 record.
