(JC Sports Information)- Jamestown College head men’s basketball coach Justin Wieck announces DeVonte Smith of Chicago has signed a Letter of Intent to enroll at Jamestown College and play for the Jimmies beginning in the fall of 2013.
Smith, a six-foot-six, 205-pound forward, spent the last two years at Des Moines Area Community College where he averaged 5.5 points and 4 rebounds per game on a team with several other college-bound players.
“We are pleased to add DeVonte to our program for next season,” Wieck says. “He comes from a junior college program that I respect and I know he will be ready to compete at this level. He brings length and athleticism to our team. This is another piece to the puzzle that we’re excited about for next season.”
As a high school player, Smith was a three-time All-Conference selection and in 2011 was an All-State selection and Chicago Public League All-Star.
“Coach Wieck and Jamestown did a great job with DeVonte during his recruiting process, and he is very excited to be a part of the winning tradition at Jamestown College,” says DMACC head men’s basketball coach B.J. McGinn. “DeVonte is a long, athletic player who will provide two years of solid game experience to Jamestown. He has been a model student-athlete for us here at DMACC and should be able to step in and make an impact for the Jimmies.”
