N.D. (AP)  A group of Griggs County residents has submitted petitions seeking to recall the five members of the County Commission over plans to replace the aging courthouse.

The commission last month voted to build a $3.5 million courthouse, despite voters rejecting the idea three times in a span of 14 months. Commissioners say they’re not raising taxes to pay for the project.

But some county residents want to save the 130-year-old building that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Griggs County Auditor Cindy Anton said it could take up to a month to verify the recall petition signatures.
