CITY, N.D.(NewsDakota.com) Two Valley City State University basketball coaches spent a week working with some of the best in the business during the Marquette University Men’s Basketball Camp.
VCSU women’s assistant Lavesa Glover and men’s assistant Matt Karlgaard both worked as coaches and instructors during the camp held June 24-28 in Milwaukee. “Being around a group as elite as Marquette Basketball is awesome,” said Glover. “You learn so much from them.”
Glover, who is entering her second year as an assistant coach for the Viking women, worked as the camp commissioner for kids ages 4-7 during the Marquette camp. She oversaw day-to-day activities and games for those campers. “To be a part of a camp like this is special in many ways,” she said. “It is truly one of the highlights of my summers.”
Karlgaard worked with players in the NBA Division, which included ages 13-17. He coached his “Milwaukee Bucks” team of campers to a 10-2 record and a second-place finish after they advanced to the camp’s championship game. “Working a camp this large was a new experience and one that I learned a lot from,” he said. “The coaches at Marquette University did a great job with the camp, and I learned from them some things that can make camps at VCSU better in the future.
