N.D. (AP) – A committee raised more than 0,000 that will help the historic Scenic Theater in Lisbon convert its film equipment to digital technology. The contributions included more than 300 local donations and a ,500 grant from USDA Rural Development.
The city of Lisbon plans to lease the equipment to theater owners Al and Betty Michels at a nominal fee. Installation is expected to be completed by the end of July.
Committee spokeswoman Amy Lyons says the effort shows the overwhelming generosity of residents and others.
A donor appreciation event and free picnic is scheduled for 6 p.m. tonight at Sandager Park in Lisbon.
The Scenic Theater in Lisbon is now the longest continually running movie theater in the United States. Operating since 1911.
