(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes City Council held their regular monthly meeting late last week.
The council learned the Oakes landfill will be full and closed by this fall. A new landfill will need to be at least 15 acres in size, and a meeting is underway with a landowner on a site. Due to the issues regarding the current site, and the need for a new one, there is some uncertainty if the City will be able to have a fall clean-up week this year.
The area of the city’s cemetery may be expanding, as the Council allowed to have additional lots surveyed and pinned; however, there is still room in the current confines for future use.
Petitions are now being circulated for the creation of a fire district in Dickey and Sargent Counties. The first public hearings on the formation of the district will be held on September 19.
Dickey Rural Networks has announced they will not be renewing their contract with the North Dakota Department of Transportation to provide motor vehicle services in Dickey County. Both DRN and the state’s DOT have been contacted about a possible office at the Oakes City Hall.
The next council meeting is set for September 3.
