CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Valley City Saints have done it again, capturing their second State title since 2010.
Over the weekend the Class AA state amateur baseball tournament was held at Jack Brown Stadium in Jamestown, North Dakota. The Valley City Saints came into the weekend having played just a handful of games, but they left Champions.
The weekend started with a win for the Saints who defeated the Bismark Brewers in a lopsided match up 6-1. In the semi-final game, both Josh Evans and Ryan Leroux were solid at the plate going a combined six for six, leading the Saints to a four run sixth inning that helped them top the Kings 10-5.
In the final game, runs were harder to come by against a strong Enderlin pitching core, lead by University of North Dakota recruit Ellery Bresnahan. The game became a pitcher’s duel but it was Valley City’s Ronnie Blagg, who had just finished his senior season of baseball at Valley City State University, and Colby Aasand who stood tall when the dust settled. The Saints 4-2 win earned Valley City their first AA state title. The previous title came when they were a single A team in 2010.
Below is an interview with Saint’s Manager Kirk Olson.
