N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The NAIA coaches have released the Preseason Top 25 poll, and while the Vikings did not make it onto the list, they did receive 15 votes.
VCSU finished the season with a 7-4 record and ranked 24th in both polls last year. While the Vikings may not be a preseason favorite, they will get the chance to turn heads when they take on the Morningside College Mustangs, this year’s preseason number one, in their second game of the season.
The Mustangs received just four first place votes but tallied a total of 280 points to take the top spot in the poll. Morningside College’s only loss last year came in the National Championship to Marion (Indiana). The defending champions received eight first place votes but with 267 points enter the season ranked second.
The Vikings will get their first glimpse of game action on August 22nd when they host Wahpeton in a scrimmage. Their first season game will come the next weekend on Aug. 31st when the face off with rival Jamestown.
