(NewsDakota.com) The Jamestown High School Football team won their first home game in almost three years, while at the same time starting the season 2-0 for the first time since 2005 with an impressive 38-6 victory Friday night at Ernie Gates Field.

The ground game of Jamestown and the turnovers of Mandan proved to be key aspects of the outcome. The Blue Jays had 270 yards of rushing on the ground, lead by Taylor Orr’s 118 yards which included a 63 yard slide down the sideline for a score in the third quarter. Blue Jay qaurterback Ross Monson threw for a touchdown to Tyler Ukestad and also ran for a touchdown. Ben Hanson was a perfect five for five on PAT attempts.

Mandan was burned early with mistakes and never recovered. On the first three drives the Braves turned the ball over with two fumbles and had a punt blocked. The Braves’ lone score came late in the fourth quarter as the result of a 15 yard touchdown pass to Parker Harm.

Jamestown will next host the two-time defending state champions from Bismarck High on Friday night. Coverage on KQDJ 1400 AM/97.1 FM and NewsDakota.com starts at 6:30 with kick at 7 p.m.
