CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) After day one of the Lake Region State College Royal’s Invitational the Vikings golf team was in first-place, but the two day tournament favored Bismarck State who overcame VCSU’s four stroke lead to earn the win.
After team score of 302 on Sunday, it looked like the Vikings were headed to their second straight tournament win. However, The Mystics rallied on Monday shooting an impressive 294 on the day. Along with their first day score of 306, Bismarck States total of 600 was good enough to steal away the victory for the Vikings.
Valley City’s Ben Sorenson, Daren Young, and Tyler Stevens all scored a 156 to finish the tournament. Young was the only player who had a better showing on the second day, cutting his first day score of 79 down by two strokes. With a 148, Shane Ost had the best showing on the course, finishing individually in a tie for third place. Beau Diegel rounded out the Vikings team score with a 158 after he concluded play.
Valley City returns to the course in Jamestown this weekend for the two day Jamestown Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
