(NewsDakota.com)- The fact that Coach Shawn Frank calls him the “Quarterback of the Defense” is high praise for the Jimmie senior safety JT Petsch. Petsch had an interception and eight tackles which lead him to being named North Star Athletic Association defensive player of the week in a 13-7 loss to UW-Stout.

Petsch is the lone returning starter in the Jimmie defensive backfield where they lost All-American AJ Downs from 2012.

Jimmies have started 0-4, but their defense rose to the occasion and kept their struggling offense in the game Saturday. Petsch’s interception came in the fourth quarter and set the Jimmies up at the Stout 45-yard line, but they could not capitalize.

Petsch is the first Jimmie football player to receive NSAA player of the week honors.
