“Doug” Haberman, 63, of LaMoure, ND, passed away under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley, on November 28, 2013 at the St. Rose Care Center in LaMoure, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Douglas Gene was born July 25, 1950 at LaMoure to Walter LeRoy and Evelyn DeVon (Jacobson) Haberman. He attended grade school and high school in Gwinner. On October 5, 1970, Doug began serving his country in the U.S. Army/82nd Airborne, and served during the Vietnam War. After his discharge on April 10, 1972, he returned to the Gwinner area. He married Julie Robideau on August 2, 1975 at LaMoure, North Dakota, and together they had two daughters, Lacy and Cali.

Over the years, Doug worked at the Melrosa Farms in Gwinner, raised cattle with his brother, Walt at Atomic Angus, was employed at Grand Rapids Farmers Elevator, the LaMoure County Road Department, Gentzkow Trucking, and was caretaker of the LaMoure County Memorial Park near Grand Rapids for 26 years before retiring in 2009. After his retirement, Doug worked part-time for the LaMoure County Weed Board.

His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and building birdhouses. He also enjoyed fitting and showing cattle for many years. Doug was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the American Legion Post #19 in LaMoure, James River Sportsman Club and the North Dakota Angus Association.

He is survived by his daughters, Lacy (Jeff) Andersen, Oakes, ND and Cali Haberman, Jamestown; two grandchildren, Bode and Skye; a brother, Walter (Delores) Haberman, LaMoure; and several nieces and nephews. Doug was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Donald and Jerry, and a sister-in-law, Dora Haberman.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 2, 2013 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m. at Zoar Lutheran Church, LaMoure. His funeral will be Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. also at Zoar Lutheran Church, with burial to follow at Rosehill Cemetery.
