CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) A meeting to discuss the possibility of going to a Vote by Mail election system in Barnes County along with one voting site received mixed reviews on December 5.

Barnes County Auditor Beth Didier says under the plan all active electors would be mailed an application for a ballot and return the application, the office would issue instructions and a ballot, which the elector returns.

Didier says there would still be one voting center on Election Day, most likely in Valley City at a location large enough to accommodate.

She says other counties that have gone to Vote by Mail and over half the voters are now voting by mail.

Didier says it would mean more work for the auditor’s office weeks before an election but less work on Election Day.
