CITY, N.D (NewsDakota.com) The Valley City Hi-Liners girls team opened the season at home in fashion with a 73-38 win over Grand Forks Central on Tuesday night.

Valley City came out strong pushing a full court press against the Knights from the very beginning of the game. The turnovers forced by the home team led to a number of fast break points for Valley City. Dierra Diegel was the leading scored in the contest putting home 19 points or more for the Hi-Liners. Clarissa Olson also had a strong night finishing in double digits on the score board.

The win for the Hi-Liners is the first under new head coach Waylan Starr, who took over for Jim McDaniel earlier this year. The Hi-Liners next test will come on Thursday when they host Fargo Davies. The game will be aired on KOVC starting at 7:15pm.

The boy’s team was also in action last night against the Knights, but they were on the road in Grand Forks. It was a tough night for the Hi-Liners who fell just short of a season opening win in a 95-63 loss.

Leading the way on the score sheet for Valley City was Ian Schweitzer who found his way to the basket for 27 points.

Grand Forks had four players with double figures, Treion Davis (19). Jake Mussman (16), Jaylon Butler (15) and Caleb Dachtler (14).

The next game for the Hi-Liners comes on December 19th against Sheyenne High School. That game will be aired on KOVC starting at 7:15pm.
