(NewsDakota.com) Games started at 3pm yesterday with No. 1 seeded Ellendale taking on newcomer to the Stutsman County Tournament No. 8 seeded Warwick, followed by three more games. Here are the results:
Ellendale 72 Warwick 31
The Warwick Lady Warriors started their first full season of Varsity Girls Basketball this year on their own, previously cooped with Four Winds/Minnewaukan. Warwick also made its first appearance in the Stutsman County Tournament this year as well.
The Ellendale Cardinals were helped by three players in double figures and all three scored 14 points each, Isabel Wedell, Madilyn Bommersbach and Shayna Mertz. Warwick started four freshman and were led by Freshman Kaylean Lohnas with 10 points. The Cardinals improve to 5-1, the Lady Warriors drop to 0-6.
Medina/Pingree/Buchanan 50 Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier 46
Despite 87% freethrow shooting and scoring 22 points in the fourth quarter by Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier, the Thunder of Medina/Pingree/Buchanan would hold on and beat the Rebels and move into the semifinal round tonight against Ellendale. The Thunder were up 42-24 at the end of three quarters of play. In the fourth quarter, the Rebels would make 16 of 19 freethrows and pull within one point of the Thunder. But Morgan Thomas of MPB would score four points in the fourth quarter, 16 total, to help the Thunder hold on. Sister to Morgan, Jordan Thomas would grab 16 boards. EKM was led by Kelsey Feist with 21 points, followed by Olivia Anderson with a double double, 10 points and 12 rebounds. MPB improves to 4-1, EKM drops to 2-3.
South Border 78 Midkota/Kensal 24
It was all South Border in this one as they rolled over Midkota/Kensal. South Border jumped out to a 21-3 lead in the opening quarter and never looked back. Kalli Scherbenske had 17 of her game-high 19 in the first half. Madison Schnabel chipped in with a double-double 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Napoleon 63 Carrington JV 48
Napoleon-GS held a pretty decent lead for most of the first half, but Carrington stormed out of the games in the second to clip the 15 point lead down to six. Napoleon quickly responded on back-to-back three point baskets by Kali Schwartzenberger and Shania Gross and were never seriously threatened again. Mariah Jangula’s 26 points paced the Imperials.
