CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) A meeting to discuss the possibility of going to a Vote by Mail election system in Barnes County received no support from the 20 or so people who attended the meeting last month in Valley City.

County Auditor Beth Didier says a proposal to consolidate into one voting site in Valley City wasn’t popular either.

Didier believes absentee voting is still a good option available.

She believes changes will happen in the future but she isn’t sure what direction the federal government will pursue.

Didier says no changes will be made to the exiting voting system in Barnes County this year. The Barnes County board of commissioners voted to make no changes during their December 17 regular meeting.

Under the Vote by Mail system all active electors would be mailed an application for a ballot and return the application, the office would then issue instructions and a ballot, which the elector returns.
