(NewsDakota.com)- Scott Nelson’s shot with 5.2 seconds left put Jamestown in front 55-54 and proved to be the game winner when Dickinson couldn’t get a shot off in the final seconds. The Jamestown girls won a no-doubter 64-38. Both teams improved their records to 3-3 in the victories.
In the girls game, Jamestown jumped on the Midgets early and often holding them to just 10 points in the first half. The Jays ran their lead to 24 points behind eight points from Paige Peterson, who finished with 14.
Taylor Schmeichel had her best night in her brief Blue Jay career as she poured in 16 points. McKayla Orr was the other Jay in double figures with 11.
The boys game was a track meet with Jamestown holding slight edges for most of the night. With just over a minute to go it looked like Jamestown was in control to pick up the victory. They lead 54-48, but Dickinson benefited off of some missed Blue Jay free throws and scored the next seven to take the lead.
Mark Erickson’s three pointer with 17 seconds left put the Midgets in front for just the third time in the game. On the ensuing possession, Ashton Johnson was stripped of the ball it went sky high into the air and Nelson caught it. Without hesitation he knocked down a 15-foot jumper.
