(NewsDakota.com) The third and final day of the 2014 Stutsman County Invitational Girls Basketball Tournament started yesterday with four games on the Jamestown Civic Center floor once again. The Ellendale Cardinals live up to their number one seeding and beat Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter 74-50 in the championship game last night. Here are the other placing games yesterday:
7th place: Midkota/Kensal 49 Warwick 31
The Mustangs get their first victory of the year as they beat the Lady Warriors in yesterdays first game. The Mustangs were led by Saddie Harding with 15 points and seven rebounds. Midkota/Kensal took 79 shots for the game making 19 of them for 24% shooting from the field. Warwick only shot 36% from the freethrow line and 19% from the field. The Lady Warriors were led by seventh grade guard Madison Leaf with 11 points. Kaylean Lohnas had 12 rebounds. Warwick is 0-8 overall, M/K is 1-5 overall.
5th place: Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier 47 Carrington JV 41
After three quarters of play, the Carrington JV led 36-30, but Sophmore Center Olivia Anderson would score eight of the 17 points for the Rebels in the fourth quarter to help secure the Consolation Championship Trophy. The Cardinals JV would only score five points the entire fourth quarter. EKM was led by Anderson with 24 points and 11 boards followed by Tabitha Kinzler with 10 including three 3-pointers. Maara Nelson poured in 18 for Carrington. Carrington JV is now 5-2 overall, EKM is 4-3 overall.
3rd place: South Border 45 Medina/Pingree/Buchanon 42
Madison Schnabel led all scorers with 19 and helped the Mustangs take home third place. South Border shot 33% from the field and three-point land and was 16/29 for 55% from the charity stripe. MPB was led by Jordan Thomas with 11. The Thunder are 4-3 overall, South Border is 5-2 overall.
CHAMPIONSHIP: Ellendale 74 Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter 50
The Cardinals improve to 7-1 overall this year as they take home the Stutsman County Title. Ellendale put up seventeen 3-pointers, making eight of them for 47%. Madison Bommersbach for Ellendale made four 3-pointers and ended the game with 16 points. Leading all scorers off the bench was Isabel Wedell with 21 points and she also grabbed 11 rebounds. Mariah Jangula had 19 for NGS. The Imperials fall to 5-4 overall.
