N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota State Historical Society has decided to buy Lawrence Welk’s boyhood home in the south central town of Strasburg.
The agency’s board voted 6-5 on Friday to move forward with purchasing the legendary band leader’s birthplace. The society will buy the property from Welk’s nieces. The price is still to be negotiated.
The Legislature last year included $100,000 in the Historical Society’s two-year budget for the purchase but lawmakers stipulated that repairs must be made first. The purchase agreement is contingent on negotiated repairs to the property.
