(NewsDakota.com) A contest a good distance from the friendly confines of home and of Class B District 1 play seemed to do the Oakes High School boys basketball team a lot of good Saturday afternoon with a 55-42 victory over Medina-Pingree/Buchanan.
The visiting Tornadoes (2-8 1-3 District 1) had control of the contest from the middle part of the first quarter on; including leading by 20 points in the second half. The hometown Thunder (3-5 0-0 District 5) were able to claw their way back in the fourth quarter, but Tornado free throws down the stretch helped seal up the victory.
Oakes shot 11 of 19 from the charity stripe, lead by Bryce Meehl who scored 18 points going six for eight from the line. Stephan Quant put in nine points, while Carter and Ethan Zetocha each added eight points. MPB had 13 points from Wyatt Staloch.
The Oakes girls and boys teams will play a doubleheader with Edgeley-Kulm/Montpelier on Tuesday. The girls will play first at 6 p.m., followed by the boys. Coverage of both games will be on KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com.
