(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes High School girls basketball team is still seeking their first District 1 victory of the season after losing 70-44 to the North Sargent Bobcats on Thursday night in Gwinner.
The Bobcats (3-5 2-1 District 1) started out on an 8-0 run and lead by four after the first eight minutes. Oakes (2-8 0-3 District 1) pulled to within two points in the second quarter but would pull no closer. North Sargent outscored Oakes in the second half 36-20 to earn the home victory. The Tornadoes committed 36 turnovers in the defeat.
Both clubs had three players score in double figures. North Sargent’s Karah Sandness (17), Lexie Jacoboson (16) and Chesley Anderson (12) had more than 10 points. Oakes had 16 points from Lydia Hansen, while Shelby Roney added 11, and Shelby Gelinske had 10 points.
Oakes will head to Fredrick South Dakota on Tuesday before returning to District 1 play a week from Friday, January 24 when they head to Hankinson.
