(NewsDakota.com)- Coming off their most impressive win of the season and having already beat Mandan by 10 to open the season, the Jamestown girls basketball team had to be feeling pretty good about their chances to win at Mandan last night. The Braves however were able to upend the Jays 62-50 behind a big second half from McKayla Howling Wolf, the senior scored 17 of her 19 points after halftime.
Mandan High has been a house of horrors for teams since the early-2000s and the Jays haven’t won their in any of the five trips Andy Skunberg’s teams have made. The Braves have won nine Class A titles since 1999.
Jamestown fell behind early when the Braves jumped out to an 11-4 lead, but the Jays countered with a 19-2 run to go up by 10. Mandan closed to within two by halftime and then Howling Wolf got going in the second half. She and Chelsea Peterson each scored 19 for the Braves, as they pulled away from Jamestown in the second half.
The Jays are now 1-5 on the road, while 4-1 at home. They will host Bismarck High on Saturday, girls at 5:45pm and the boys will follow at 7:45pm.
