(NewsDakota.com) The City of Oakes is suggesting residents and businesses trickle water from at least one faucet until the beginning of April in order to prevent freezing water service lines.

The city cites due to the depth of the frost line and inadequate snow cover for insulation, there is an increased possibility of residential/business water service lines freezing.

Trickling is being defined by the city as a little less than a half a cup of water a minute. 1,000 gallons will be provided for each residence and business at no charge.

Anyone with questions is asked to call Oakes City Hall at 742-2137.
