D.C. (NewsDakota.com) – Both North Dakota U.S. Senators John Hoeven and Heidi Heitkamp announced the selection of two North Dakota students for their 52nd Annual United States Senate Youth Program for this March in Washington D.C.

Bethany Berntson and Tyler Toepke-Floyd were both selected by Kristen Baesler, Superintendent of Public Instruction. The students were chosen from a list of nominees recommended by North Dakota teachers and principals.

Bethany Berntson attends Valley City Jr/Sr High School and is her class president as well as a Student Council representative. Tyler Toepke-Floyd attends Wishek High School where he serves as a Student Council representative. Both students are very active in their school as well as their community.

The program was created “to increase young Americans’ understanding of the interrelationships of the three branches of government, the caliber and responsibilities of federally elected and appointed officials, and the vital importance of democratic decision making not only for America but for people around the world.”
