N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The American Red Cross Association has announced the release of a brand new app for smart phones and devices to help in the event of a flood.

Beth Dewald, Executive Director of the Buffalo Valley Chapter of the Red Cross, explained that the app is absolutely free to download and is a big benefit to families in the area.

That’s not the only app available from the American Red Cross, either. Other disasters and emergency preparedness apps that are free and available to use from the Red Cross include wild fires, tornadoes, earthquakes and first aid. They also have an app for people interested in volunteering for the Red Cross.

Another feature of these apps is the weather band. The app will alert you to weather in your area or designated addresses, keeping you informed of steps to take to be prepared in case of extreme weather and different strategies to take. The apps will also inform you of your local safe shelter in the event of an emergency.
