N.D. (AP) – An international habitat conservation and hunting organization wants to buy farmland to restore wetlands in North Dakota, but it must first get approval from key agricultural and wildlife groups in the state.

Ducks Unlimited has proposed to buy and restore 47 acres north of Carrington from a local farmer to provide wetland mitigation and allow for youth hunting.

The organization will present its proposal at the Foster County courthouse Thursday before an advisory commission made up of the state’s key wildlife and agricultural groups. The commission will decide whether to recommend approval to Gov. Jack Dalrymple.

Previous proposals from the organization to buy farmland in the state have been denied several times. Some commissioners have opposed the projects because they want to keep the land devoted to agriculture.
