(NewsDakota.com) For the third time in as many years, the Oakes High School girls basketball team will have a different head coach.

Jason Schmitz, who has also served as interim athletic director announced his resignation Thursday effective the end of the school year.

Schmitz, who is accepting a teaching and coaching position at Gila Ridge High School in Yuma, Arizona says he will have nothing but great memories about his short tenure in Oakes.

Schmitz came on as a social studies teacher during the 2012-13 academic year, and assisted Caitlyn Wojahn in her lone season as head coach. When Wojahn left one year ago, Schmitz took the reins and guided the Lady Tornadoes within a win of competing for a spot in the Class B Region I Tournament despite a 4-17 record. In late November, Schmitz was named interim athletics and activities director after the resignation of Don Warren.
