(NewsDakota.com) After early morning thunderstorms rolled through Carrington, officials decided to start the Region 3 Baseball Tourney two hours late so the field could be prepared for the quadruple header. Instead of a 10am start, the tourney started at noon with No. 4 Dakota Prairie taking on No. 5 Lakota/Edmore. Followed by No. 3 Sheyenne/New Rockford up against No. 6 Medina/Pingree-Buchanan. No. 1 Midkota would take on the winner of the first game and No. 2 Carrington would play the winner of the second game. To get all the games played, it was decided to go with a rolling schedule where games were played 20 minutes after the completion of the last game. Here are the results:
Lakota/Edmore 4 Dakota Prairie 3
The Raiders catcher Matt Miller hit a solo home run to lead off the fourth inning and was 2 for 3 at the plate with a couple of RBI to help his team get the victory in the first game of the day.
Sheyenne/New Rockford 12 Medina/Pingree-Buchanan 1
The Thunder of Medina/Pingree-Buchanan remain winless as they drop to the Rockets. MPB is 0-20 overall for the year and 0-11 in Region 3.
Midkota 5 Lakota/Edmore 3
The score was 5-0 going into the bottom of the seventh inning when Lakota/Edmore scored three runs to pull within two, but it wasn’t enough as the undefeated Mustangs didn’t allow anymore runs. The Mustangs are now 11-0 in Region 3 play.
Sheyenne/New Rockford 3 Carrington 2
Winning pitcher Seth Gilles goes the distance for the Rockets and avoids a threat by the Cardinals in the bottom of the seventh inning to record the Rockets second victory of the day. Carrington was down 3-1 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, the Cardinals would score one run on an error, but Gilles would hang on and strikeout Braxton Hewitt with the bases loaded to end the game. Sheyenne/New Rockford is now 12-6 overall and Carrington drops to 13-7 overall. Gilles allowed only three hits and had eight strikeouts, at the plate he was 3 for 4 with a run scored. Brady Smith was the losing pitcher.
