(NewsDakota.com) During the final day of the Region 3 Baseball Tourney at Carrington City Park yesterday, three teams remained at the start, but only one would advance to next weeks State Tourney at Jack Brown Stadium in Jamestown starting on Thursday, May 29th. Sheyenne/New Rockford and Carrington started with an elimination game followed by the championship game, here are the results:
CARRINGTON 11 SHEYENNE/NEW ROCKFORD 6
The Cardinals trailed 6-1 at the end of four innings of play, but they would score five runs in the top of the fifth inning to tie it at six. The Cardinals held the Blacksox scoreless for the last four innings and pulled ahead in the sixth inning scoring one run and then tacking on four more in the seventh to get the victory. Braxton Hewitt was 2 for 3 at the plate with three RBI and a 2-run double. Senior Patrick Freeman was the winning pitcher going all seven innings on 123 pitches. Freeman was 1 for 3 with a three run double. Seth Gilliss was the losing pitcher going seven innings on 159 pitches. The Blacksox end their season at 12-8 overall.
MIDKOTA/GCC/BCN 11 CARRINGTON 9 (Championship game)
The Mustangs scored eight runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take an 11-5 lead over Carrington. The Cardinals would get four more runs but it wouldn’t be enough as the Mustangs get the victory and advance to the State Class B Tournament. Dakota Hoyt went 3 for 3 at the plate with one home run and a double for the Mustangs. Brady Smith for Carrington was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Midkota improves to 16-4 overall and 13-0 in Region 3 play. Carrington ends their season at 16-8 overall.
