memorial service for Wilmer B. Hanson, 91, Enderlin, ND, will be held in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Valley City, ND on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at 2:00 PM. Rev. Bradley Edin will officiate and burial will be in Waldheim Cemetery, Kathryn, ND.
Wilmer Burnell Hanson was born October 9, 1922 to Conrad and Tillie (Mickelson) Hanson at Fort Ransom, ND. He was baptized and confirmed in the Standing Rock Lutheran Church in Fort Ransom where he grew up and graduated from high school in 1940. He attended business school in Wahpeton, ND.
From August 23, 1943 to February 22, 1946 (during WWII), he served in the United States Army Signal Corps. He was a radio telegraph operator in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre.
On December 8, 1948, Wilmer was united in marriage to Enid Tangen in Moorhead, MN. Wilmer was employed by Cass County Electric for 35 years. After retiring in 1985, they moved to Mesa, AZ where they stayed for 24 years. After being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, Wilmer entered Maryhill Manor in Enderlin, ND in September 2010.
He was a life member of the VFW and the Elks Lodge. Wilmer enjoyed playing pool, golfing, pinochle, and bowling, but Alzheimer’s robbed him of his ability to do any of these things.
Wilmer died on May 23, 2014 at Maryhill Manor in Enderlin. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Violet Henrikson; and a grandson, Jay Wescom.
He is survived by his wife, Enid, Enderlin; sons, Bruce (Holly) Hanson, Mesa, AZ and John (Darla) Hanson, Williston, ND; grandchildren, Brandon (Summer) Lolling, Kimberly (Chris) Morris, Ryan Hanson, Christopher Hanson, and Zachary Wescom; great grandchildren, Carter and Payton Lolling; and many nieces and nephews.
