CITY, N.D (NewsDakota.com) The Valley City Soap Box Derby Races gets underway this weekend with drivers age 7-18 racing down Central Avenue trying to claim the fastest times.

Racers will compete in two divisions with the younger drivers, age 7-14 years of age, competing in the Stock division and older racers, 9-18, trying their hand at the Super Stock cars. 

Event begins Friday, June 6th at 9:30am with trial runs and comes to an end on Sunday afternoon with the conclusion of the rally racing.

Winners of this course will have the opportunity to advance to the International Competition which is held in Akron, Ohio every summer. Last year Valley City’s Annie Hart captured third place on the Rubber City Hill. That is the best finish for any regional winner from Valley City.

Weekend Schedule:

Friday June 6th

9:30am – 10:30am: Driver Trial Runs

10:30am: Opening Ceremonies

10:45am – 7:00pm: Derby Racing

Saturday, June 7th

8:00am – 11:00am: Racing Continues, Awards to follow

Noon – 8pm: Rally Racing (double elimination)

Sunday June 8th

8:00am – Finish: Rally Racing
