(NewsDakota.com) For the third time in as many weeks, a stretch of Dickey County Highway 3, 10 miles west of Oakes has been forced to be closed due to the excessive rains the area has experienced.

Dickey County Emergency Manager Charlie Russell says the stretch of highway, also know as the Kaspric slough is in the process of being grade-raised for the final time, and the weather has put things on hold more than a few times in recent weeks.

Russell says given the forecast for the next few days, the earliest the section could be open is Monday; provided there is not significant rainfall during the upcoming weekend.

The finished project, including pavement of the road, is expected to be done in September. The highway is a direct east-west connection between Oakes and U.S. Highway 281.
