N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A Fargo woman who sent her teenage son to drug treatment in Jamestown says she wishes she hadn’t.

He was 14 when he got into trouble for smoking pot. He was referred to a residential in-patient program run by Fargo-based Drake Counseling Services. The center closed without warning six years ago. A lawsuit, filed on behalf of 11 former patients, has just been settled for one and a half million dollars. There were claims of drugs, drinking, sex and pornography. One employee has an extensive criminal background, including felony convictions. This mother of three thought that she’d made the right decision.

The mother tried to get prosecutors to file charges, but the Stutsman County State’s Attorney decided against it following a police investigation. Drake, which has outpatient treatment centers in Fargo and Grand Forks, now operates an adolescent in-patient program near Detroit lakes. A district judge in Jamestown released some documents related to the case. Since minors were part of the lawsuit, much of the information had been sealed.
