(NewsDakota.com) Just four out of the original nine teams that started play in the 2014 North Dakota American Legion Southeast Region baseball tournament remain after quite the Thursday set of games.
Game number one saw Kidder County hold off a late rally from Hankinson-Faimount to keep their season alive with a 6-5 victory. H-F had a three run home run from Chase Devine, his second home run of the tournament to pull within a single run in the bottom of the seventh, but couldn’t come back all the way.
The second loser-out affair went just a few minutes under three hours in length, and saw Oakes edge Kindred 4-3 in 12 innings. Bryce Meehl earned the win, while Mike Kelly and Jon Tyre, who pitched five and third and five and two thirds innings respectfully, ended with no-decisions.
The winner’s bracket game was the direct polar opposite of the second game, with LaMoure blasting Enderlin 15-2. Post 19’s bottom three hitters were a combined six for six with six hits and four runs scored in their first two plate appearances.
A doubleheader is scheduled for Friday with Kidder County and Enderlin meeting at 5 p.m., followed by Oakes and LaMoure at 7:30. LaMoure has already punched their ticket to the State Class B Tournament in Langdon with one ticket still outstanding for another team to take. A Kidder County or Enderlin win compiled with an Oakes loss would give the other ticket to the winner of the 5 p.m. game and the opportunity to try to beat LaMoure twice on Saturday to win the Southeast Championship. If Oakes pulls the upset, Oakes would play the winner of Kidder County/Enderlin Saturday to punch the other ticket, and play LaMoure in a single game for the Championship.
Q101.1FM and NewsDakota.com will have both games, while KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 will have the Oakes/LaMoure contest.
