LAKE, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Valley City State men’s golf team picked up their first invitational victory of the fall season Wednesday afternoon at the Lake Region State College Invite in Devils Lake, North Dakota.
The Vikings defeated both Bismarck State College and Lake Region State College to claim the Invite Championship with a team score of 304. Bismarck State totaled a 317 as a team while the host team, Lake Region State, finished the event with a 406.
Bismarck State’s Laramie Keplin took the individual championship carding a 69 for the day. VCSU’s Kyle Weibe grabbed second place with a 73 in the round. Fellow Vikings Daniel Sam, Shane Ost and Ben Sorenson each carded a 77 in a three way tie for fourth place.
While the Vikings did not have enough members on the women’s team to register a team score, the three golfers who participated for VCSU had a strong showing. Nicole Heinitz took fourth place in the event with a 94. Nicole Mosiman carded a 98 for the event, and Hannnah Gress shot a 141.
The Vikings are back on the links September 7 and 8 for the Mystic Open in Bismarck.
