John Kvien, 64, died at home Tuesday, October 7, 2014 in Valley City ND. The memorial service will be held Saturday, October 11, at 10:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Valley City with Reverend Emmy Swedlund officiating.  Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the church on Saturday morning.

Roger was born November 4, 1949 in Valley City ND, the son of Maurice Sr. and Dorothy Kvien. He was active in Boy Scouts growing up and received the Eagle Scout Award for a project at Trinity Lutheran Church, where he was mentored by Pastor Schilling. He graduated from Valley City High School in 1967, and attended Valley City State University, graduating in 1985 with a  B.S. degree in Business Administration/ Accounting. He married Linda Lane in 1970. He owned and operated Kvien’s Mobile with his brother, Mickey, 1970 –1975, and also was a car and truck salesman for several local dealerships over the years. He moved to Madras, Oregon in 1989 and then to Greenville, Georgia, returning to North Dakota in 2001, where he worked at John Deere in Valley City, later retiring due to declining health.

Roger is survived by two children, Matt (Jodi) Kvien of Valley City, and Leah (Paul) Zimmer of Port Orchard WA, his mother, Dorothy Kvien, Valley City, brother Mickey (Peggy) Kvien, Valley City, sisters Virginia (Larry) Monson, Dayton, Ohio and Beth (Paul) Glandt, Westminster,  Colorado, and five grandsons, John, Lane, and Sage Kvien, and Noah and Nico Zimmer.

Roger will be remembered for his sense of humor and teasing of his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, his love for horses (King and Star), his determination and strong will.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his father Maurice Sr, his sister Sharon Cashatt, granddaughter Karlee Kvien, and niece Jodi Kvien Opatz.
